Taste of the Arts 2010 – Fort Wayne

Over 40 Arts United affiliated organizations were represented at “Taste of the Arts 2010″. Amazingly, it was only one of the many events taking place last Saturday in downtown Fort Wayne. The historic Barr Street Market was open all day, Columbia Street had a block party featuring R & B acts, musical groups were performing at the Plaza of the Allen County Public Library, Viva Fort Wayne Fiesta was taking place at Headwaters Park, and a re-enactments of the French & Indian War events were showcased at Historic Fort Wayne. All of these events are made possible by individual volunteers, companies, and organizations who call Fort Wayne their home. Ours is truly a special community.

Don Hall’s Riverside Boardwalk & Gazebo

The statue of Charles Louis Centlivre was originally located on the roof of the Centlivre Brewhouse on Spy Run. It was moved to Don Hall’s Gas House Restaurant in 1974. The Centlivre Brewery which was founded in 1862 changed its name to Old Crown Brewing Corporation in 1962 and ceased production in 1973. An advertisement from 1905 proclaimed that: “If you want to be well drink beer that is pure and healthful. Our Special Export Beer is absolutely pure, properly aged and fermented, and is made from the best materials money can buy. We spare neither care, cash nor brains in the brewing of this perfect beer, and the rich, inimitable flavor is the natural consequence. C L Centlivre Brewing…Made in Fort Wayne”.

The Village at Winona

Eagle Lake – now known as Winona Lake – was originally the home of the Potawatomi Indians. A treaty was signed with the tribe in 1834 and the first white settlers arrived soon thereafter. Less than an hour from Fort Wayne, it’s a great place to visit. The Village at Winona has an array of artisan shops, art galleries, gift shops, and several eateries. We especially enjoy the Boathouse Restaurant with its friendly staff, great food, and super view over the lake. For details visit www.VillageatWinona.com

After his military career, Chief Little Turtle became a diplomat for his people. He was a principal negotiator for the Indians at the Treaty of Greenville in 1795. He made four trips to our nation’s capital, meeting with Presidents George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. Meshekinnoquah was laid to rest with Military honors in 1812.
